Around two days ago I just flashed the Android 2.2 Froyo leak into Liquidos. It now has a totally modified UI called "Acer UI", which is quite unique. It doesn't follow the usual fashion of Android user interface like the ones used in other Android phones.
When you press the unlock button on the left side of the device, you'll directly go into the widgets screen, which is actually the lock screen. Yes, now the lock screen contains widgets. To unlock it, you need to "flip" the screen over by peeling the bottom left corner of the screen upwards.
You'll find yourself on the home screen, with a notification bar in the middle (not on top like usual). If you try to swipe the top screen left, it will show any recent running applications, and to the right it will show the media player. Below the notification bar is a set of shortcuts which can be customized. Notice that I changed the standard messaging application with the Handcent SMS.
And here you will not find any widgets, which sucks, because you need to lock-unlock your phone to gain access to the widgets screen (which is the lock screen). On the lock screen, you can't directly modify its content. You can modify it via the "widgets" application from the application drawer, or by holding the "home" button for a few seconds. This time, it's not the lock screen you're taken to. It's where you modify the lock/widget screen, and you can put widgets here. It's impossible to put shortcuts and folders here though. Bummer :(
Back to the home screen. The notification bar is clickable, and if you click it, it will show the details. You can also swipe it left or right to view more notifications. Also, the shortcuts are actually swipeable (is it even a word?) upwards. It will open the application drawer. You can also access it with the menu button. There are a few new apps here.
"Decor", to decor your home screen and set ringtones.
"MsgExpress", like "Friend Stream" in HTC, to see the recent updates on Facebook and Twitter. If you update your status with this application, it will be seen as "via Acer Mobile". (contents censored)
So far, this has been a huge change in Acer Liquid E. With a huge change like this, it is very possible that old users will find it difficult to get used to the new user interface. No problem though, there's an option to revert it back to the Froyo Android UI.
I actually wanted to write more about its performance, but I'll let other sites (probably the more trusted ones) show them. As for me, I got 28 MFLOPS when I tested it with Linpack, and got around 700 for my Quadrant's score.
